The Essentials for Exceptional Newborn Photography in Potomac, MD: A Comprehensive Guide

Potomac Maryland Newborn photography

Macro Lens: One of the most cherished parts of newborn photography is capturing tiny details—the curl of a finger, a little toe, or the delicate shape of a baby’s ear. A macro lens allows me to zoom in on these fine features without losing any clarity, creating images that bring the small, intricate beauty of a newborn to life.

Customized Props: If parents have a unique idea, I encourage them to bring personal items like heirlooms, toys, or blankets that hold special meaning. Incorporating these items makes each session feel more intimate and personal.

Preparing for Baby: Essentials to Pack for the Hospital

  1. Important Documents:
    • Identification: Bring your driver’s license, passport, or any other form of identification.
    • Insurance Information: Ensure you have your insurance cards and any necessary paperwork.
    • Birth Plan: If you have a birth plan, bring several copies to share with your medical team.
  2. Comfortable Clothing:
    • Loose-fitting Nightgown or Pajamas: Choose something that opens in the front if you plan to breastfeed.
    • Comfortable Robe: Perfect for walking around the hospital and receiving visitors.
    • Non-slip Socks or Slippers: Hospitals can be chilly and the floors can be slippery.
    • Nursing Bras and Pads: Essential if you plan to breastfeed.
    • Maternity Underwear: Disposable ones are particularly handy as they’re easy to change.
  3. Toiletries:
    • Toothbrush and Toothpaste: Freshen up easily.
    • Hairbrush and Hair Ties: Keep your hair tidy and out of the way.
    • Lip Balm: Hospital air can be very dry, and lip balm will be a lifesaver.
    • Basic Skincare Products: Moisturizer, facial cleanser, etc.
    • Shower Essentials: Bring travel-sized shampoo, conditioner, and body wash.
    • Deodorant: Stay fresh and comfortable.
  4. Comfort Items:
    • Your Own Pillow: Bring a pillow with a distinctive pillowcase so it doesn’t get mixed up with hospital linens.
    • A Favorite Blanket or Throw: Adds a touch of home comfort.
    • A Water Bottle: Stay hydrated with your own reusable bottle.
    • Snacks for Labor and Postpartum: Think granola bars, nuts, and other easy-to-eat, energy-boosting snacks.
  1. Technology and Entertainment:
    • Phone and Charger: To keep in touch with family and friends, and capture those first photos.
    • Camera: For high-quality pictures (though we’re always here to help with professional newborn photography!).
    • Headphones: Listen to calming music or audiobooks to help pass the time.
    • Tablet or Book: For entertainment during downtime.
  2. Postpartum Essentials:
    • Heavy-duty Maternity Pads: Hospitals usually provide some, but you might prefer your own brand.
    • Perineal Spray or Witch Hazel Pads: Helps soothe any discomfort.
    • Comfortable Going-home Outfit: Something loose and easy to wear.

  1. Clothing:
    • Newborn-sized Outfits: Pack a few options in different sizes, as you might not know exactly how big your baby will be.
    • Soft Hat and Socks: Newborns can lose heat quickly, so these are essential.
    • Swaddle Blankets: For easy swaddling and comfort.
  2. Diapering:
    • Newborn Diapers: While hospitals provide these, having your own extras can be helpful.
    • Baby Wipes: Gentle, unscented wipes are best.
    • Diaper Cream: To protect baby’s sensitive skin.
  3. Feeding:
    • Bottles and Formula: If you’re planning to bottle-feed, bring your preferred bottles and formula.
    • Nursing Pillow: If you plan to breastfeed, this can provide much-needed support.
  4. Car Seat:
    • Properly Installed Car Seat: Ensure you have this ready for your baby’s first ride home. Many hospitals will check to make sure it’s installed correctly.
  5. Comfort Items:
    • Soft Blanket for the Ride Home: For extra warmth and comfort.
    • Small, Soft Toy or Lovey: Something comforting for the baby.
  • Pack Early: Aim to have your bag packed by 35 weeks, just in case your baby decides to arrive early.
  • Consider Your Partner: Don’t forget to pack a small bag for your partner or support person, including snacks, a change of clothes, toiletries, and any medications they might need.
  • Check with Your Hospital: Some hospitals provide many of the essentials for both mom and baby, so check with your hospital to avoid overpacking.

In today’s blog I will be sharing the final gallery of baby Harleaux who came for her newborn session when she was only 15 days new. Her parents choose pink, brown with red details and floral setups for her baby session.

I started with some props and posed this beautiful baby girl in the bucket. Just look how precious she looks. I added some extra details : pink hat, teddy bear and floral crown. After this setup, I capture images on the pink flokati rug. Look at this smile of baby girl Harleaux. Isn’t she cute? I am absolutely in love with this gallery.

As a Maryland professional baby photographer, I always prepare several setups for the newborn session. If you are interested to learn more about the process do not hesitate to visit my blog post here.

I love to take simple and timeless portraits on the beanbag. Parents decided to continue with pink color for this next setup and the final results are absolutely amazing. Of course I added a crown to make it look even more beautiful.

I finished the entire baby photoshoot in my studio located in Rockville Maryland by adding some cream digital backdrops full of flowers.

Maryland Milestone Photography session worth booking?

Maryland Newborn Photography

1. WHAT IS A MILESTONE SESSION?

Maryland Milestone Photography session is designed to capture a significant moment in your child’s life. In their first year, this may include tummy-time, sitting, standing, and walking. As they continue to grow, these sessions will likely become less frequent and more of a yearly tradition to commemorate their birthdays!

These significant milestones for your little one are precious and deserve to be captured. As a parent, you know how quickly time flies and babies grow up. That’s why scheduling milestone sessions throughout your newborn’s first year allows you to preserve these special memories for years to come.

3 month old session Rockville MD

2. 3 MONTH OLD SESSION.

During this Maryland Milestone Photography session, we will focus on capturing the irresistible smile of your baby. As a parent, I cherished this stage in the early months. There was nothing more heartwarming than seeing my daughter and son’s toothless grins whenever they caught sight of me. Our main objective for this session is to freeze those precious expressions and smiles of your little bundle of joy. Additionally, some babies may have developed enough strength to engage in tummy time and hold their head up during the shoot. Rather than scheduling at precisely 3 months, consider booking when your child is frequently displaying their joyful smiles and laughter in your presence.

Baby session Gaithersburg MD

3. SITTER SESSION ( 6-9 MONTH OLD).

One of the most enjoyable Maryland Milestone Photography Sessions for me are the 6 Month Milestone or Sitter Sessions! These sessions showcase the new skill of sitting up. They also bring attention to the noticeable changes in a baby’s appearance. Some little ones may now have enough hair to style into a sprout or clip back. For some perhaps even their first tooth has emerged! Usually, this session is scheduled between 6-9 months, depending on your baby’s individual development. Babies closer to nine months may already be crawling and can often stand while holding onto furniture or someone’s hands. Let’s be honest, this age is just too cute for words!

Maryland sitter session

4. Older Child.

Milestone sessions for older kids, whether it be at 15 months, 3 years, or twelve years, are always full of adorable moments. It brings me joy to capture the unique and growing personality of your child. I am able to include your interests in the milestone session, by incorporating items from your own home or utilizing various props available in the studio. This will result in stunning and one-of-a-kind images that will hold a special place in your family’s memories.

If your are interested to get more information about my Milestone session in my professional studio located in Rockville Maryland, do not hesitate to contact us today! Some steps to take if your newborn is having trouble sleeping during the photography session.

Maryland Newborn Photography

Looking for a Maryland baby photoshoot near Rockville MD? Welcome to Natalia Brembor Photography blog! Today I will explain what to do if the newborn baby refuses to fall asleep during the session.

New parents often feel overwhelmed when it comes to their first photo shoot with their newborn. One particular challenge during these sessions is when your baby is resistant to falling asleep. However, rest assured that we have solutions to make the session run smoothly and produce favorable results for you.

1. What can be done when your newborn can’t fall asleep?

To encourage your newborn baby to sleep during the photography session, there are a few techniques I try as a professional newborn photographer during Maryland baby photoshoot. I start by ensuring the room is comfortably warm to help the baby relax. Swaddling with a soft blanket can also aid in soothing the newborn. If she remains alert, I try to offer a pacifier or some formula or breast milk. A little patience and expertise and many years of my experience working with babies is key to achieve a peaceful and wonderful sleepy newborn photos every family dreams of.

2. Below are some additional suggestions for capturing beautiful photographs of newborns.

Initial attempts to help your baby fall asleep during my Maryland newborn photoshoot may involve wrapping, which promotes a sense of security and comfort.

If this method doesn’t work, as an experience newborn photographer I will consider rocking the baby or as Mom to nurse the your newborn, as these movements can have a calming effect.

I also keep white noise onto help the baby to relax and fall asleep. By remaining patient and willing to try different approaches, I am always able to capture some stunning photos of your newborn while she sleeps.

3. Be flexible.

As a parent, it can be easy to get caught up in the little things and want to remember every detail about your new baby. However, when it comes to newborn photography, keeping things in perspective is crucial. It’s completely normal for the baby to not sleep through the entire Maryland newborn photoshoot, me as a professional photographer will work with you to capture beautiful images of your precious little bundle of joy. If there are moments when your baby fusses or cries during the session, no need to worry. I will still be able to capture stunning shots. The most important thing is to relax and cherish this special time with your little one. Before you know it, the baby will be all grown up and these precious moments will simply be a memory.

4. Suggestions for Parents during a Newborn Photography Session.

As a parent, you are aware of the various factors that may disrupt a baby’s sleep. This applies to newborns as well! Here are some suggestions to stay calm during a newborn session:

a) Frequent breaks are crucial during a newborn session to ensure both you and the baby have time to rest. Fatigue can cause babies to become fussy, making it essential to schedule regular breaks for both of you.

b) It’s essential to maintain patience during newborn sessions, as they may run longer than anticipated. Stay calm and ready for any situation. If the baby becomes fussy or doesn’t seem to settle, try not to become too frustrated – everything will eventually fall into place!

c) Flexibility is key when working with newborns. It’s important to adapt and be open to change whenever necessary. Keep in mind that things may not always go as expected, but that doesn’t have to be a problem. Simply go with the flow and make the most of the session for both yourself and the baby.

d) Maintain open communication with the photographer throughout the session. If you experience any feelings of being overwhelmed or frustrated, don’t hesitate share it. Your newborn photographer is there to help guide you through the process and provide solutions for any challenges that may appear on the way.

e) Ultimately, remember to breathe deeply and stay calm. While it may be challenging, maintaining a relaxed demeanor throughout the session will greatly contribute to its smooth progression.

Which option is better for a newborn session: at home or in a studio?

Maryland Newborn Photography

Are you looking for possible locations to newborn photography sessions in Maryland? The arrival of a new baby brings with it a multitude of tasks and considerations. One aspect that many new parents are choosing to invest in is professional newborn photography, as a way to document this special time and capture the precious features of their little one. However, for parents who are already overwhelmed with preparations, this can be an intimidating decision to make. Allow me to guide you in making well-informed choices when selecting a photographer and deciding between two locations for newborn photography photoshoot : a home or studio session.

In home or at studio newborn session near me

Listed below are the reasons why clients prefer various types of sessions. Hopefully it will provide clarification and insight for any questions you may have regarding what to expect during your own newborn session.

1. Are you interested in more candid and relaxed photos of your family and newborn?

Some clients may not be interested in posed newborn photos. If you prefer photos of the baby in the new nursery, with your family pet, or on your bed, a home session would be more suitable. Producing studio-quality newborn and family portraits at home is simple, but it can be challenging to achieve the same result in a studio setting. For more details information about lifestyle and posed photography visit our blog post here.

2. Are you concerned about bringing your newborn outside?

While some parents may feel at ease taking their newborn out in public within the first 1-2 weeks, others may still feel anxious about using modern carseats. Some mothers may be focusing on their recovery and prefer to stay put, while others are eager to leave the house. Additionally, each baby’s individual risk level varies. Rest assured, there is no judgement here – simply do what makes you comfortable. It’s worth mentioning that my studio maintains a high standard of cleanliness with all clothing, wraps, and props properly sanitized between clients. So if you choose to bring your baby here, you can trust that they will be in a secure environment with caring hands. More details about satety of a newborn baby during the photoshoot on this blog.

In home or at studio newborn session in Maryland

3. Is your residence a small home or apartment?

It is not an issue. Photographers who provide in-home newborn sessions simply need a small area to work in. Additionally, they come equipped with their own studio lights, making natural light unnecessary. While some clients may prefer to have their sessions at a professional newborn studio instead of their own homes, the size of your available space is not a concern at all.

4. Are props something that you genuinely enjoy?

If you have a love for baby photography, with all kinds of props ranging from bowls to beds and buckets to themed backdrops, then the studio is definitely the ideal place for you. Unlike at your home, where photographers are limited in what they can bring, here you will have access to all in studio props and equipment. From adorable outfits and wraps to cute bonnets, hats, and headbands, as well as various backdrops and floors, the possibilities for creating multiple set-ups are endless. If this sounds like your kind of thing, you’ll absolutely love it. Examples of the most populars props I use in my professional Maryland studio in this blog post.

locations for newborn photography sessions

5. What is your available time?

Choosing between two locations for newborn photography session depends of the time your family has available. In-home sessions typically run for 3-4 hours, allowing photographers enough time to set up and pack up their equipment. In contrast, studio sessions generally last between 1.5-3 hours. As a newborn photographer, I always allocate up to 4-hour block for studio sessions to account for any potential fussiness or feeding breaks for the baby. Overall, studio sessions are often slightly shorter in duration.

6. Would you be willing to cover the cost for your photographer to come to your residence?

Opting for in-home sessions will incur a higher cost compared to studio sessions. Your photographer must meticulously prepare and procure all necessary props, pack and transport their equipment to your location, set it up, dismantle it, travel back and unpack everything once more. Additionally, they must possess expertise in adapting to various lighting situations and navigating potential challenges that may not arise in a studio setting.

7. Is big sibling extremely introverted and anxious around unfamiliar people?

If this is the case, he may feel more at ease in his own residence. Observing the photographer arrange and engage with his parents and newborn may assist him in becoming more relaxed. A competent and child-friendly photographer will be attentive to him and make him feel valued, thus encouraging cooperation. Are you curious about siblings photoshoot ideas for a newborn session. No worries. Visit our blog post here.

WHAT IS NEWBORN PHOTOGRAPHY?

Maryland Newborn Photography

As a professional Maryland baby photographer I will focus on today’s blog post on providing descriptive definition of newborn photography.

Newborn photography is a specialized form of capturing precious moments with infants. Professionals in this field have received special training to ensure the safety and comfort of babies while producing stunning images. This type of photography is typically done within the first two weeks of a baby’s life, when they are at their squishiest and most flexible. This timeframe is optimal for capturing exceptional photos due to the stage of a newborn’s development. While each photographer brings their own individual touch and style to their work, there are two primary categories of newborn photography.

Maryland newborn photographer

1. Capturing precious moments of your newborn in beautifully posed photographs.

When envisioning newborn photography, posed shoots are likely the initial thought. These sessions typically take place in a studio and offer an array of charming backdrops, baskets, wraps, knit hats, and more. Many parents opt for studio sessions due to their overall convenience and comfort. My studio has all the necessary tools to create mesmerizing newborn photos – from props and sets to lighting and posing techniques, along with a plentiful wardrobe for your little one. As a Maryland baby photographer I create beautiful and personalized setup for every family.

2. Capture the essence of a new life with a lifestyle newborn photography.

Newborn photographers may provide lifestyle photoshoots, which take place in the client’s home and focus on capturing candid, natural images of the baby in their own surroundings. These sessions utilize natural lighting and typically involve minimal props (except for the parents and siblings!). As the photography is conducted in a more relaxed setting, both the pictures and experience have a casual and easygoing vibe. Additionally, lifestyle newborn photoshoots require less time as there is less preparation involved due to being held at the client’s home.

Maryland newborn photographer

3. Be sure to communicate with your newborn photographer!

The key to a successful newborn session is effective communication with your photographer. Keep in mind that every photographer has their own approach, and as a parent, your desires for the shoot are one-of-a-kind. Whether you have specific photos or poses in mind or a collection of inspiration on Pinterest, it’s crucial to express these preferences before finalizing the session.

4. Don’t forget to book your session for your newborn!

The ideal time to take newborn photos is within the first two weeks of life. During this stage, babies often prefer being wrapped and swaddled. Due to their softness, flexibility, and tendency to sleep, they are easier to position for photoshoots.

Maximize your newborn session planning by scheduling during the second or third trimester of pregnancy. This ensures an available spot around your due date. At Natalia Brembor Photography studio, we will select the specific date and time for your session to fit within the two-week timeframe after your baby is born.

Due to high demand, we recommend booking your session before your delivery date instead of waiting until after your baby is born to add “schedule a newborn photo session” to your To-Do list. This ensures that you secure a spot and don’t miss out on capturing those precious moments.

5. What items are necessary to bring for a newborn session?

Ensure that your diaper bag is stocked with your preferred diapers and wipes, as well as formula and bottles if you are using them. Those who are nursing may only need to grab the baby and a few diapers before heading out. At the beginning of the session, we recommend that Mom feed the baby and ensure they are clean and dry. Newborns who have recently been fed tend to be more relaxed and sleepy, making them ideal for their photography sessions.

Feel free to include any unique items or outfits you have in mind. Along with providing all the necessary elements for a successful baby photo session, you may have personal items you wish to incorporate into your newborn photos. These could include a unique hat or blanket, delicate furs to adorn your baby’s fingers and toes, or even their first outfit coming home. Some proud parents choose to feature their baby in one of their own military uniforms, while others opt for heirloom clothing passed down from their own childhood photos.

Do not forget to bring clothing options for both parents and siblings. Remember to pack additional clothing for each family member, particularly those you want to be in the pictures. While you may not need to wear these extra outfits, they could come in handy if you find yourself in a messy situation where a speedy wardrobe change is necessary.
