When it comes to booking a Washington DC Newborn Photographer, it’s recommended to schedule within the first 14 days of your baby’s birth. The ideal window is between day 5 and 10. There are several benefits to this timing. Your newborn’s age can greatly impact your session experience, but that doesn’t mean there is a “bad” time for photos. In fact, I always encourage capturing these precious moments whenever possible.. As a newborn photographer at Natalia Brembor Photography, my goal is to provide a seamless experience for families and that’s why I highly recommend scheduling the session sooner rather than later. This is my intentional approach behind it all.

The infant is becoming increasingly alert.
You may have heard other new parents mention how their baby suddenly becomes more alert around two weeks old. During the first couple of weeks, babies tend to sleep a lot and are mostly drowsy during the day. However, when they reach that stage, they’re awake more often and paying closer attention. Newborns usually sleep 18-20 hours a day, with longer naps during the day than at night. Unfortunately, this can make it challenging for parents to get a good night’s rest, but it does mean that they’re typically in a calm and sleepy state during photo shoots.
Around two weeks old, your baby may also experience a growth spurt and require frequent feedings, similar to their second or third night after birth when they’re trying to stimulate milk production for mom. As you can imagine, trying to take photos on this day can be quite difficult! After the first few weeks, babies become more alert and harder to settle down. This means it can take much longer (if at all) to get them into the perfect pose for a photo. Any slight movement during this process might wake them up, making it nearly impossible to capture the shot we want. That’s why newborns within their first week are much.
Infants develop quickly.
As your baby continues to grow and develop, you may notice rapid changes in their size. In fact, during the first two weeks alone, newborns can gain up to 250 grams per week! It’s remarkable how quickly they progress from being so small that they barely fill out a hospital outfit to needing a whole new wardrobe of sleep suits. And just like clothing, the beautiful props we use for newborn photography also become too small as your little one grows. As a Washington DC newborn photographer I put a lot of creativity and care into selecting unique pieces that will showcase your baby’s precious moments. It would be unfortunate if, on the day of the photoshoot, none of our carefully curated props fit your growing bundle of joy.

Becoming stronger each day.
As babies continue to grow, their muscles also develop over time, resulting in less flexibility and posing challenges. For example, you may envision your baby comfortably posed on their tummy, but it’s not uncommon for babies to begin rolling from front to back as early as 4 weeks old. To capture those highly desirable newborn photos that you’ve likely seen on social media and want displayed on your wall, scheduling a photo shoot within the first 14 days is recommended.
Impeccable skin for a newborn.
Is there anything more delicate and velvety than the skin of a fresh newborn? While some infants may experience “milk pimples” or rashes, and dry patches, it’s best to schedule a photoshoot with Washington DC newborn photographer – Natalia Brembor Photography – as soon as possible to capture their perfect newborn features.

Exceptions.
If a baby is born prematurely and requires care in the Special Care Nursery or Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, we may not be able to take their newborn photos within the first 14 days. However, we will schedule would a session at our studio once it is safe for the baby. Please keep in mind that for safety reasons, we will modify some poses for these tiny ones. Therefore, we suggest keeping the baby wrapped during the shoot and refraining from nude photos.

When to schedule your newborn’s photo session.
Given the limited amount of time available to capture photos of your precious little bundle, we suggest booking a session with Washington DC newborn photographer during the pregnancy. Although I typically schedule sessions one week after your due date, we can be flexible if baby arrives early or decides to take their time entering the world. This also eliminates one less concern for you to remember once your little one arrives.
